There will almost certainly be trades come draft night, so why not predict that every pick gets traded in the hope of being able to say that I got at least one right.
All 32 picks were involved in a total of 17 trades.
While this endeavour is clearly for fun and not a prediction of the 2020 NFL draft - I do aim to make every trade at least semi-realistic, if not reasonable. That being said, I did not bother being too pedantic with the swaps of later picks.
So here's how the draft could look if every pick was traded.
1. Miami Dolphins (via Cin) - Joe Burrow
Miami trade up to get the 1st pick in the draft for 2 firsts and 2 seconds and grab the consensus number 1 QB in Joe Burrow
2. Detroit Lions (via Wash) – Tua Tagovailoa
Detroit, among pressure from other teams, find their QB for 2021 and beyond with Tua sitting behind Stafford for a year. It costs them their first and two thirds.
3. Washington Redskin (via Det) – Chase Young
Washington still get their guy and add two thirds from the Lions for the player they would’ve taken at second anyway.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars (via NYG) – Isaiah Simmons
Jacksonville’s once feared defence has been gutted. The grab the versatile Simmons at the cost of the ninth pick and a second.
5. Cincinnati Bengals (via Mia) – Justin Herbert
Bengals bring in a new QB with plenty of new capital to work with after acquiring two firsts and two seconds from Miami.
6. Las Vegas Raiders (via LAC) – Jeffrey Okudah
Raiders feel they can get a receiver later in the draft so move up aggressively to grab the clear-cut number 1 corner in the draft. They give up both firsts to do this (while recouping a second).
7. Cleveland Browns (via Car) – Tristan Wirfs
The Browns move up to get their #1 offensive tackle in the draft – costing them a third and a fourth.
8. New York Jets (via Ari) – Andrew Thomas
Jets move up to secure Andrew Thomas to help protect Darnold at the cost of day 2 picks.
9. New York Giants (via NYJ) – Jedrick Wills
The Giants take Wills who they may have taken at four anyway while adding Jacksonville’s second round pick in the process.
10. Carolina Panthers (via Cle) – Derrick Brown
Likewise, Panthers added some later picks to take Brown, who they would have been happy to take at seven anyway.
11. Atlanta Falcons (via ARI) – Javon Kinlaw
Arizona moves down again as Atlanta seek the need to improve their woeful pass defence adding Kinlaw for a later pick.
12. Los Angeles Chargers (via LVR) – Jordan Love
After the Raiders trade, the Chargers have two first round picks. They use the first to secure a QB of the future who can sit behind Taylor in the short-run.
13. Philadelphia Eagles (via SF) – CeeDee Lamb
The Eagles move up to get one the best receivers in the draft at the cost of day 2/3 picks.
14. Minnesota Vikings (via TB) – CJ Henderson
The Vikings improve their secondary by adding CJ Henderson at the cost of their first round pick and a couple thirds.
15. Green Bay Packers (via DEN) – Jerry Jeudy
Packers move all the way up from pick 30 with the help of a second round pick to grab the other top tier receiver in Jeudy giving Rodgers an amazing weapon.
16. Arizona Cardinals (via ATL) – Mekhi Becton
Arizona trading down twice to get a large return of capital taking Becton to protect Kyler Murray.
17. New Orleans Saints (via DAL) – Henry Ruggs
Saints grab speedster Ruggs to complement Michael Thomas in the long-term at the cost of day 2/3 pics.
18. Cincinnati Bengals (via MIA) – Trevon Diggs
The Bengals use one of the firsts they took from Miami to grab Trevon Diggs – adding talent on the defensive side of the ball.
19. Los Angeles Chargers (via LV) – Kenneth Murray
They’ve grabbed their future QB and now they use their other newly acquired 1st rd pick to grab the future QB of their defence.
20. Minnesota Vikings (via JAX) – Justin Jefferson
Minnesota move up to get most people’s fourth best receiver in Justin Jefferson at the cost of two fourths.
21. San Francisco 49ers (via Philadelphia) – Justin Madubuike
The Niners replace the departed Buckner to fill the hole in their d-line after trading down with Philly.
22. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via MIN) – Jonathan Taylor
The Bucs grab a workhorse running back to complete their offensive weapons after grabbing two thirds to move down.
23. Seattle Seahawks (via NE) – Austin Jackson
The Seahawks move up to grab an offensive tackle to protect Russell Wilson at the cost of day 3 picks.
24. Dallas Cowboys (via NO) – Grant Delpit
Dallas fills their hole at safety after trading down with the Saints and adding later picks.
25. Jacksonville Jaguars (via MIN) – Kristian Fulton
The Jaguars start the rebuild of their secondary by adding Fulton after trading down with the Vikings.
26. Kansas City Chiefs (via MIA) – Laviska Shenault Jr
The Chiefs add a receiver to their stacked team after moving up with Miami.
27. New England Patriots (via SEA) – K’Lavon Chaisson
The Patriots move back yet still get a possible steal in Chaisson who may be one of the best edge defenders in the draft.
28. Los Angeles Rams (via BAL) – D’Andre Swift
The Rams replace the departed Gurley with potentially the best RB in the class giving the Ravens a second and a third to do so.
29. San Francisco 49ers (via TEN) – Denzel Mims
For a cost of a fourth, the Niners secure a wide receiver.
30. Denver Broncos (via GB) – Tee Higgins
Denver added capital later in the draft but still take a receiver in the first round after trading the Packers – taking Tee Higgins.
31. Tennessee Titans (via SF) – Cam Dantzler
The Titans add a fourth via this trade and improve their secondary by adding Cam Dantzler.
32. Miami Dolphins (via KC) – Xavier McKinney
Miami traded back to recoup some capital after an earlier trade up – they replace Minkah with Xavier McKinney.
